This Bull Whip offers great performance on a budget and is a great starting point for anyone wanting to learn how to crack whips.
The 6ft Bull Whip is ideal for beginners as it is easy to use and has an awesome crack. We recommend the 6 foot whips for beginners as they are a little easier to handle than the 8's and require less room to operate safely.
NB this is not a toy! They are real whips and can cause serious injury.
Use appropriate eye protection for training and use only in a safe, open area away from other people.
Construction and specifications...
The Bull whip is the classic Western American whip. It consists of four sections. A handle, a thong, a drop and a cracker.
The handle - With Bull whips, the lanyard is connected directly in line with the handle. The handle of JD Bull whips is internally weighted (with a steel rod) to counterbalance the thong, making the whip very responsive and easier to crack.
The Thong - The main part of the length of the whip is made up of a braided body or a thong. The material, the number of braids and the internal construction of the thong are all important factors in the performance of the whip. All Leather Bull Whips use a thong made up of 12 braids of cowhide leather, layered over a layer of leather miter and a central braided core.
The Chute - At the tapered end of the lanyard is the chute. The chute is a single piece of soft leather with a length varying between 10 and 30 inches. This part will need to be replaced from time to time as it wears out.
The Firecracker - Finally, an even more flexible piece of nylon thread is tied: The Firecracker. This is the part of the whip that produces the sonic crack when it exceeds the speed of sound. This part wears out from all that stress, so it will need to be replaced periodically.
